//Biography\\
Johnathan Medlock is a 23-year employee of the federal government, father and community organizer who hails from Southern Georgia. Deeply rooted in his traditionally southern ancestry he is keenly aware of the importance of family and community. The values and principles that helped to cultivate him as a young man still drive his actions today. It is these values that drove Mr. Medlock to become a staple in the District Heights Community and that of Washington, DC with Community Based organizations and Non-Profits.
Johnathan began his service to the community in Georgia as a mentor and volunteer for the Boys and Girls Club where he helped run World Class Boxing Club for youth from the local community from 1997-2001. His commitment to serve his community did not fade as he left Georgia for the Washington, DC area and soon after his arrival he jumped right into work with many organizations such as the Rachel’s Women’s Center where he contributed and offered his service between 2009 and 2012. As a critical organization for women who suffered Domestic Violence, his time at Rachel’s Women’s Center reinforced his belief that it is important to advocate and support the voiceless, until they re-gain their voice. Simultaneously Johnathan was a member of the National Black United Front where he organized and participated in their myriad of community programs including the monthly, “Feed the Hood Program”, Ajamu Youth Investment Group and the Summer Youth Academy. His community service efforts do not end with NBUF but were augmented in District Heights with the district Heights Elementary mentoring program where for the last four years he has served as a mentor to young African-American boys in need of male role models. His commitment to youth in the community has driven him to not only work with youth and their parents but also with school and governmental officials to steer the young men in the correct direction.
In addition to this work he has been active in the District Heights Civic Association and Recreational Council. Professionally, Mr. Medlock, a 21-year steward of the Federal Government, has worked in many capacities. He began his career with the Federal Government as a high school student in a program that trained youth to become change agents in their community. Twenty years later, he has served in many departments in the Federal Government including the Department of Navy and the Department of Defense. During his tenure with the Department of Navy, he was certified as a Navel Instructor and received several awards including the Secretary of Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation in 2000. While at the Department of Defense, Mr. Medlock has been a valuable member of the National Security Team.
A graduate of Brenau University and Georgia Military College, Mr. Medlock is wholeheartedly committed to building strong communities one person at a time. It is with this fervor that he is dedicated to rolling up his sleeves to become part and parcel of the leadership in District Heights, to ensure a brighter future for our seniors, youth and the entire community. Let's Build!
